The cabin is nestled in the heights of Osogna in Ticino's Riviera Valley. This small, mostly deserted hamlet can only be reached on foot via a steep 45-minute hike. It is a perfect retreat for those seeking simplicity. Situated at 650 m above sea level, the cabin is nestled among rocks, trees, and meadows, offering panoramic views over the valley. The cabin does not offer absolute silence, but rather an authentic experience of Ticino rural life with typical valley sounds. For guests seeking complete tranquility, this place is not ideal. 35 m² of living space for up to 4 guests, divided into: Cozy, well-equipped kitchen with a 100-year-old wood stove, running cold spring water (May–Oct), drinking water filter, and homemade clay pot cooler for storing food without electricity. Two small, comfortable bedrooms: one with a double bed, one with a bunk bed. Beds are fully made with fresh linens. Small wood stove, extra bed, hot water bottles, chest of drawers, a few books, and games. Bathroom with a wood-fired hot water boiler (May–Oct), solar shower, dry urine-diverting toilet, hand-cranked washing machine, towels, and washcloths. Entrance area with slippers provided. Two large solar panels provide the cabin with sufficient electricity. Good 4G mobile coverage. Pets are welcome. Dog bed, blanket, and bowl provided. Outdoor area: Small fenced, partially covered area with table and benches, fire pit, rocket stove, solar oven, various herbs, and firewood. 2,000 m² unfenced area with meadows and woodland, 2 sun loungers. Due to the secluded location and limited accessibility, regular inspections of the cabin by us are not possible. We therefore only rent to responsible guests who commit to leaving the cabin clean and in pristine condition upon departure. Every guest must conscientiously clean up and leave no trace at the end of their stay.

During the summer season, the cabin has running spring water (not drinking water). In winter, water can be collected from a nearby spring, and two rainwater barrels are also available. The spring water must be filtered or boiled before drinking. For showering, there's a wood-fired boiler in summer or a solar shower. In winter, you can wash with heated water. The toilet is a dry composting toilet that needs to be emptied by guests. In winter, half a crate of wood is provided per overnight stay, and in summer, a quarter crate. Additional wood can be gathered by guests in dry weather.

Please leave the cabin as clean and tidy as you would wish to find it upon your arrival.

During the summer season (May to the end of October), you can enjoy ¼ of a crate of complimentary firewood per night. In the winter season (November to April inclusive), this increases to ½ a crate, perfect for cozy evenings!

Dogs are welcome! We provide a comfortable dog bed and food bowl for your furry friend.

Good shoes and a backpack are recommended for exploring the area.

The area around Osogna in the Riviera Valley offers a wealth of discovery opportunities. Directly from the cabin, you can embark on beautiful hikes through chestnut forests and up the surrounding mountains. The nearby Ticino River invites you to swim in the summer, with several natural bathing spots in the vicinity. Culturally, the historic villages of the Riviera Valley are fascinating, with their typical Ticinese stone houses and charming 'grotti' (traditional restaurants). Bellinzona, with its UNESCO World Heritage castles, is only about a 20-minute drive away. For nature lovers, there are several impressive waterfalls to discover in the immediate surroundings, including the Cascata di Santa Petronilla. Lake Maggiore is reachable in about 30 minutes by car, where you can explore numerous water sports activities and picturesque lakeside towns.

From the cabin, the trail continues up the mountain. After about 45 minutes, you'll reach another small hamlet with two little stone houses and a wonderful view of both sides of the valley. It's a rewarding destination for a half-day trip, and you return along the same path. Further up, the trail branches off. We've had adventurous guests who hiked from there all the way to Biasca and back, though it involves more scrambling than hiking at times. We've never been all the way to the top ourselves. All the paths here are suitable only for sure-footed hikers. About a half-hour walk from the cabin, a mountain stream called the Nala flows down the hillside, where you'll find a fantastic swimming spot. Down in the village of Osogna, the Nala cascades over an open waterfall into a natural rock pool. In Ticino, this is known as a 'Pozzon'. The idyllic Pozzon of Osogna is no secret, unfortunately—every summer it attracts numerous tourists and locals alike. The Nala is one of the "Big 5" (Grandi 5) canyons of the Riviera. The tour through the lower Nala (Nala inferiore) features an optional 14-metre jump and a 15-metre slide, and is suitable only for experienced canyoners. If you're venturing into a gorge for the first time, the Boggera near Cresciano is a much better choice. It requires no previous experience and is suitable for ages 12 and up when accompanied by an adult. Guided tours are offered by several local providers, such as purelements or Ticino Outdoor.

I spent a wonderful weekend with my friends at Capanna Al Ghiro. The view from the hut was absolutely breathtaking - we couldn’t get enough of it. The hut was exactly as described: fully equipped and cozy. If you're not expecting hotel-like comfort but are looking for a unique and authentic experience, you won't be disappointed. The entrance to the canyon - a perfect spot to cool off from the afternoon heat - is right at the beginning of the trail from the parking area to the hut. Chenoa was a very communicative and helpful host, always ready to answer any questions. We would definitely love to come back!
