Camping in Glarus

Bauwagen im Schwändital

Switzerland-8752 Glarus Nord
Nestled in the picturesque Schwändital, in the heart of the Glarnerland region, you'll discover our charming, converted shepherd's hut. Perched on a sunny south-facing slope at 1250 meters above sea level, this unique retreat boasts a lovely terrace and is set within an agricultural zone. This often sun-drenched spot, offering captivating views, is perfect for unwinding, or as a base for delightful strolls, invigorating hikes, and thrilling climbing tours. The interior is heated and has electricity. You'll find a simple, covered outdoor kitchen (complete with crockery and a coffee machine), a water fountain, and a composting toilet (located next to the hut), plus a fire bowl with wood provided. The shepherd's hut is situated on a working farm. You might find yourselves neighbors with sheep and livestock guardian dogs (expect some bleating, occasional barking, or the farmer haying with the sounds of his machinery). This newly converted shepherd's hut offers you the perfect opportunity to escape the daily grind, banish those annual November blues, and soak up the sun above the sea of fog. A few peaceful days here could also be a unique chance to experience firsthand how and where lamb meat is produced. I look forward to sharing this beautiful place with you!

We very much appreciate Thomas hospitality and generosity. Our 3-year old son loved the stay too and wishes to stay longer. We’d like to come back.
I'm honestly at a loss for words to describe this stay. And that's saying something… What do you hear up there? Cowbells, sheep, and the occasional dog. Otherwise, you only hear the wind rustling through the sycamore maple next to the cabin wagon. It is also the last thing you see before closing your eyes in the wagon: that beautiful, large tree against the mountain backdrop, followed by a few stars… You can enjoy leisurely walks along the stream across mountain meadows—no sense of time, no expectations, no appointments… And upon returning, you're greeted by the three dogs and often by Thomas for a chat about anything and everything. Not for everyone, very rustic, but genuine. It was truly hard for us to leave.
What a unique place to stay! Breathtaking views everywhere you look, piece and quiet of apline country side. Thomas was such interesting and welcoming host. We will definitely come back again to see these mountains and to talk to the dogs
We really enjoyed our stay in Schwändital. The shepherd's hut is spacious and cozy. For us, it was an authentic experience with a real insight into Glarus alpine life and agriculture.
Super experience. Great dogs, scenery and host !
