Campen wo die Heidschnucken leben

Germany-53894 Mechernich
Our peaceful, nature-filled meadow, overlooking the Heidschnucke sheep pasture, is located on the outskirts of Wachendorf at the foot of the northern Eifel. Here, you'll find plenty of space on a generous meadow with unobstructed views of the landscape, evening campfires, relaxation in our clay sauna, products from our own sheep, BBQ packages, and chilled drinks. We look forward to welcoming you! Facilities Our sanitary building features a very spacious outdoor shower with hot and cold water and perfect privacy, a large sink, and separate toilets with washbasins for ladies and gents. Additionally, an indoor shower and a unisex toilet are available in the courtyard building. The Clay Sauna We built our sauna ourselves. It is heated by a wood-burning stove, and you can enjoy the pleasant heat radiating from the clay walls while looking out over the garden. We offer the sauna for exclusive use at a flat rate of €70. This includes: firewood, lighting and heating the stove, and a brief introduction on how to use it. The Workshop Our 400-year-old heritage-listed square farmstead is also home to our workshop for tuned wind chimes. Here, you can get a glimpse into the production of our handcrafted chimes. Learn more at: www.bauerklangspiel.de The Factory Shop This is a place to play and explore: all our tuned wind chimes, gongs, and singing bowls, as well as musical items from around the world and our large, cozy range of decorative stars. Our White Horned Heidschnucke Sheep They stay outdoors all year round. By keeping them, we make an important contribution to the preservation of traditional livestock breeds. You can purchase sausages, meat, sheepskins, and other products directly on-site. Upon request, we can send you a list of everything currently available.
What makes this place special
Ernst about the place
  • The exciting hiking trails of the EifelSchleifen and EifelSpuren lead directly past Wachendorf.
  • You can see the Bruder Klaus Field Chapel, built by Swiss star architect Peter Zumthor, right from your pitch – it's only 800 meters away!
  • An evening in our clay sauna! We built our sauna ourselves. It's heated by a wood-burning stove, and you can enjoy the pleasant warmth radiating from the clay walls while gazing out into the garden. We offer exclusive use of the sauna for a flat fee of €70. This includes: wood for firing, lighting and heating the sauna, and an introduction to its operation.
  • Our historic four-sided farmstead in the Eifel region is also home to our workshop for tuned chimes. Here, you can get a fascinating glimpse into the production of our handcrafted chimes and sound instruments.
  • In our factory shop, you can play and try out all our tuned chimes, gongs, and singing bowls, as well as resonant instruments from around the world and our extensive, cozy 'Stars' collection.
  • A true highlight on our farm is always in spring when the lambs of our White Horned Heath Sheep are born. They arrive under the open sky and are soon playfully frolicking on their feet. Once they're a bit bigger, the whole lamb gang gathers every evening and races across the meadow. You can truly see the joy they have!

Important notes to avoid misunderstandings: We are not a traditional campsite! Dear guests, please read the following information carefully: 1. Check-in, 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM: Please stop and wait in front of the small stop sign! Do not stop on the alpine path or on the neighboring property under any circumstances! 2. We do not have partitioned pitches. Once a spot is chosen, it cannot be changed without consultation, even if the meadow is large and you were previously given a choice. 3. Toilet use is, of course, included in the base price. There is one toilet for ladies and one for gents in the sanitary hut, plus a unisex toilet in the courtyard building. Please leave the facilities as you would like to find them. 4. We offer electricity (€3/day), max. 1,000W short-term, permanent max. 400W. 5. We offer showers (€3/shower). There is a spacious open-air shower with hot water in the sanitary hut and an indoor shower in the courtyard building. 6. We have 4 fire pits with large fire bowls that must not be moved, but only 2 tripods with grill grates. Firewood is available (€15/wheelbarrow). 7. We do not offer free waste disposal; we only provide official city trash bags (€3/80-liter bag). Please hand these in at the courtyard upon check-out. Due to foxes, it is strictly forbidden to store trash outside. 8. Please collect organic waste separately; it goes into our brown bin. Please ask for paper bags for organic waste. 9. We have a large, freshly mown lawn where all campers must coordinate with one another. While we don't have written house rules, we have clear expectations regarding order and cleanliness. 10. We have 9 neighbors around our large property, with whom we maintain a respectful and quiet relationship. 11. We do not have a cleaning service to tidy up after you! You must maintain cleanliness yourself—just like in nature, please leave the place as you found it! 12. Off-leash dogs are only allowed if they are well-behaved and if it is guaranteed they won't bark at, corner, or approach other people. Dogs prone to such behavior must remain on a leash at all times. 13. Flying drones is not permitted on our farm and is very unpopular throughout the village. 14. We have no facilities for disposing of portable chemical toilets. 15. Check-out between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM is mandatory. Please come to the farm shop and ring the bell. We are usually in the shop or the office around the corner from 9:00 AM (10:00 AM on weekends). If you can't find anyone, please call us at 02256 300 790 or 0177 888 25 02 before you leave. Safe travels and warm regards from the Eifel, Ernst & Britta

Great place, lovely hosts, and an exciting region. - will be back! Thank you for the pleasant stay. 💐😊 🙋🏻‍♀️&🙋🏼‍♂️
Ernst's employee, Stefanie, was extraordinarily helpful and I had the best pitch on the site. Everything a camper needs is there, and I'm thinking of going back again in October.
Great experience. We felt very welcome. Ernst and Britta are super friendly and the place offers everything you need.
I stayed for 2 nights and felt incredibly comfortable and welcome from the moment I arrived until I left. Ernst is a very pleasant person. I will definitely be back.
They still exist: hosts who put their heart and soul into creating a place where we campers can feel truly at home. Ernst & Britta are exactly those kinds of hosts. Communication: great; welcome: incredibly warm and well-structured. Everything is shown and explained. The site: a huge meadow where everyone finds their spot. Tents right by the Moorland sheep, caravans under the giant sequoia, vans by the hedge… a place for everyone. Sanitary facilities: beautifully new, everything you need, and very well-maintained. The outdoor shower must be wonderful in this weather, though we didn't have time to test it :-). I could go on writing for another hour. It was fantastic and we will definitely be back.
We had an excellent stay with Ernst and Britta. Thank you for your hospitality. The location is magnificent, surrounded by sheep. The wind chime shop is well worth a visit! The facilities are extremely clean. The region is also beautiful!
Friendly hosts, good shower and nice space.
One or, even better, several nights with the Heidschnucken is an absolute highlight and highly recommended. Absolutely top-notch.
