At the “Stellplatz beim Windrad” (Pitch by the Windmill), a truly special haven of peace and relaxation awaits you. In an idyllic, secluded location at an altitude of around 650 meters, you will enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Kandel, the Feldberg, Freiburg, and all the way to the Vosges mountains.
The pitch is quietly situated on the outskirts of the village and is exclusively yours to use. Here, you can enjoy your getaway undisturbed, far away from hustle, bustle, through traffic, and everyday stress. Instead of traffic noise, you’ll be greeted by birdsong, fresh Black Forest air, and an impressive starry sky on clear nights.
Directly from the pitch, you have direct access to the Kandelhöhenweg trail as well as Freiamt's popular panoramic hiking trail. Whether hiking, mountain biking, or simply soaking in nature, this is the perfect base for unforgettable adventures. The well-known ZweiTälerSteig trail in the Elz Valley is also just a few minutes' drive away.
For families and day-trippers, Europa-Park is only about 40 minutes away. A short stroll to the nearby hunting lodge is also well worth it—on clear days, you can even spot some of the theme park's attractions from there.
My parents and I run our family farm together. In the winter, we care for around 65 cattle in our barn before they head back out to the lush pastures for the summer. Our farm dog Max and six cats are also part of the family.
The pitch is set on a meadow with a reinforced gravel base, offering ideal conditions for a relaxing retreat in the heart of nature.

🚐 Is the access road also suitable for larger motorhomes? Yes, the access road is easily passable. The route via Denzlingen, Sexau, and Freiamt is the most pleasant.

♻️ Is there a place to dispose of trash? Please take your waste with you and leave the area clean.

🚽 Can the camping toilet be emptied? No, the disposal of toilet waste and greywater is not possible on-site.

🛒 Are there shopping options nearby? In the village (about 10 minutes away), you'll find a bakery, a small village shop, as well as numerous farm shops and vending machines with local produce.

🐶 Are dogs allowed? Yes, dogs are warmly welcome. Please be considerate of other guests, our animals, and nature.

🌙 How quiet is the pitch? The site is very peaceful and in a completely secluded location. Here, you will mostly hear birdsong, the wind in the trees, and the sounds of nature.

🥾 Can you go hiking right from the pitch? Yes. The Kandelhöhenweg and the panoramic circular trail are directly accessible, and the Zwei-Täler-Steig is just a few minutes' drive away.

🌧️ Is the pitch accessible even in the rain? Yes, thanks to the gravel ground, the pitch can generally be used easily even in wet weather.

In the village, just about a 10-minute drive from the pitch, you'll find a bakery and a small convenience store for your everyday essentials.
A real highlight in Freiamt is the direct farm-to-table shopping. Many local farmers offer their produce 24/7 via vending machines or directly at the farm. There, you can buy fresh milk, eggs, seasonal vegetables, and high-quality local meat.
Freiamt also has plenty to offer when it comes to dining. Several traditional inns and restaurants invite you to savor Baden cuisine and regional specialties.

Our camper pitch is the ideal base for discovering the very best of the Black Forest. Right from the site, you can access the Kandelhöhenweg as well as the popular Freiamt panoramic circular trail. The start of the renowned Zwei-Täler-Steig trail is also just a few minutes' drive away.
Hiking and cycling enthusiasts will find some of the region's most breathtaking viewpoints at Mount Kandel and the Feldberg. For a refreshing cool-down after an active day, stop by the Kneipp water-treading pool in Freiamt.
Families are in for a treat as well: the Kurhaus Freiamt features a mini-golf course and an indoor pool, the Rollberg Freiamt guarantees fun for all ages, and the Waldkirch Zoo is a big hit with animal lovers.
Another highlight is the Waldkirch Treetop Walk (Baumwipfelpfad), offering a unique perspective of the Black Forest. Equally worth a visit are the famous Triberg Waterfalls, one of Germany's most iconic natural wonders.

We have become big fans of Nomady, as it is a quick and easy way for us to book a pitch in nature. You pay a small fee, we had access to fresh water, and you should be self-sufficient. The 'Am Windrad' spot was perfect for us, with views over the Black Forest, the Rhine Valley, and the Freiamt heights; we really enjoyed it. There is no shade here, but in return, you get a great view, and we just sat in the shadow of our camper, which was perfect. Steffi sent us precise directions and a warm email in advance :-)) Highly recommended, as is the Nomady website in general!
